Rules and Regulations
Members may borrow a maximum of five toys at a time, only one of which may be a gold star toy.
Each toy is issued for a period of three weeks. Toys can be renewed once only on the member website or at the library for a maximum loan period of 6 weeks.
If toys are returned a week or more overdue then a fine of $1.00 per week for each toy is payable.
Toys must be returned clean, undamaged and complete. Care must be taken to ensure all pieces of the toy are accounted for. Please ensure water toys are dry.
(a) If a piece of a toy is damaged and/or broken or missing, a fine of $5.00 is payable. (b) If a piece of a toy is missing, the toy will remain on your card for an agreed period of time or until the piece is found. If the piece is not found within the agreed period of time then the missing pieces fine will be payable. If the missing piece is returned before the PCTL has purchased a replacement piece the member will be reimbursed the fined amount.
If a toy is totally lost, irreparably damaged, or rendered useless then the member will be charged a reasonable replacement cost as assessed by the PCTL committee.
The member must count the pieces of the toy prior to borrowing the toy. If the toy is incomplete, the member must ensure details of the missing piece or pieces are recorded by the librarian prior to leaving the library, otherwise it will be assumed that the member has lost the piece or pieces of the toy.
If for any reason you are unable to return toys to the library on or before the due date please contact the librarian by email to arrange the return of toys.
Members are issued with a membership card which remains at the toy library. You may return toys without your membership card. If you take and subsequently lose your membership card a replacement card will be issued by the library for a cost of $1.00.
Members may not belong to more than one toy library at a time.
If a member changes address or contact details that member must immediately notify the PCTL of their change of address and phone details so that records can be updated.
Duty Members are required as a condition of membership to perform 3 rostered duties per year of membership. Duties include assisting while the toy library is open and stocktaking amongst other things. Failure to perform duties without making appropriate arrangements may lead to the revocation of membership.
Toy Safety Standards
The Product Safety Standards (Children’s Toys) Regulations 1992 set compulsory standards covering toys for children under the age of three. The Standard aims to reduce death or injury to young children from toys or parts of toys that are so small they could be swallowed or inhaled causing choking.
PCTL has carefully chosen toys for children under the age of three that meet the required Safety Standard. Those toys in the library that are marked meet the Safety Standard.
It is the responsibility of the member to:
Ensure appropriate toys are chosen for children under the age of three and
Where a family comprises both children under and over the age of three to supervise and protect those under the age of three from toys that are unsuitable and do not meet the Safety Standard.
All members are required to acknowledge their responsibility. If you would like further information on the Safety Standard please ask at the Toy Library.
